Getting Started with TradeJour

TradeJour automatically extracts trade data from your annotated TradingView screenshots, eliminating manual journaling for backtesting traders. Get started in under 2 minutes.

The #1 Critical Requirement

⚠️ PnL Position Tool Required

Your screenshots MUST include the TradingView Position/PnL tool. This is the ONLY requirement for successful extraction.

Read the full PnL Tool Guide →

Quick Setup (3 steps):

  1. Open TradingView and load your chart
  2. Click the drawing toolbar (left side) → Select "Long Position" or "Short Position" tool
  3. Place your trade levels: Click to set entry, drag to set Stop Loss and Take Profit

Color Requirements

The PnL tool must use these exact colors. Keep them reserved for TradeJour:

Stop Loss
#f23645
Take Profit
#089981
Entry
#000000

Pro Tip: Enable All Display Options

Right-click your PnL tool → Settings → Enable "Show Price", "Show Percentage", "Show Risk/Reward" for best extraction results.

Your First Upload

  1. Take a screenshot of your TradingView chart (Cmd+Shift+4 on Mac, Win+Shift+S on Windows)
  2. Go to TradeJour and click "Log Trade" or navigate to /upload
  3. Upload your screenshot (drag & drop or click)
  4. Wait for TradeJour.nl extraction (usually 5-10 seconds)
  5. Review extracted data and make any corrections
  6. Save to your journal!

Quick Tips for Success

  • Use TradingView's dark theme for better label visibility
  • Make sure all price labels are clearly visible (not cut off)
  • You can upload multiple timeframes of the same trade - they'll auto-group
  • Green confidence indicators mean high accuracy, yellow/red means review carefully

Next Steps (Optional Features)

Once you've uploaded your first trade, explore these optional features to enhance your workflow:

DateTime Indicator

Add the DateTime indicator to your TradingView chart for automatic entry time extraction. Without it, you'll need to manually enter the trade date/time.

Text Annotations

Add text bubbles to your chart to explain your trade logic. These become auto-generated trade summaries and analysis notes automatically.

Multi-Screenshot Grouping

Upload multiple screenshots of the same trade (different timeframes) and TradeJour will automatically group them as one trade. Perfect for multi-timeframe analysis!
